Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department โ€“ Family Crimes Division, Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Section have arrested a Germantown man for several sex-related offenses.

Today, Cuyler Jay Cornell, age 50, of the unit block of Stonebridge Court in Germantown was arrested and charged with several sex-related offenses. Cornell is a 7th grade teacher at Neelsville Middle School in Germantown.

In February 2012, detectives received information that suspicious and inappropriate contact was occurring between a teacher at Neelsville Middle School, later identified as Cornell, and a 14-year-old student at the school. Investigation revealed that Cornell befriended the victim during the 2010-2011 school year when the victim was a student in Cornellโ€™s classroom. During the school year, Cornell began visiting the victimโ€™s home and going on excursions with the victim outside the realm of school activities.

The relationship between Cornell and the victim continued when the school year ended, and detectives believe that it was during the summer of 2011 that Cornell inappropriately touched the victim on two occasions. During the 2011-2012 (current) school year, the victim and Cornell continued to spend time together at school. After witnessing what they felt was inappropriate contact between Cornell and the victim on several occasions, independent witnesses notified school administrators and police, and the investigation was initiated.

Based on the above, an arrest warrant was obtained for Cornell, and he was arrested today without incident. Cornell was charged with two counts of committing a third degree sex offense and one count of sexual abuse of a minor. Bond and bond review information is unavailable at this time.

And the second arrest…

Today, Aaron William Murray La Mere, age 39, of the 25400 block of Jarl Drive in Gaithersburg was arrested and charged with several sex-related offenses. La Mere had been a Media Services Technician at Northwood High School in Silver Spring until recently.

On March 14, detectives received information that a former Northwood High School employee, later identified as La Mere, was in possession of child pornography. Investigation revealed that the laptop that La Mere used while working at the school contained numerous pornographic images of young males.

While investigating the child pornography allegations, detectives received further information that three students at the school had been victims of various sex offenses by La Mere between October 1, 2011 and February 29, 2012. During this time, La Mere had solicited two of the victims for sex via text messages, inappropriately touched two of the victims on several occasions, showed two of the victims images of a naked male on his cell phone, and exposed himself to two of the victims. All of the offenses occurred inside of Northwood High School.

La Mere was charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, four counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, four counts of committing a third degree sex offense, three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, one count of committing a fourth degree sex offense, and two counts of indecent exposure. La Mere is currently being held on $150,000 bond and has a bond review hearing scheduled for May 8 at 1:00 p.m.
