Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, two teens were seriously hurt in a head-on crash at Harpers Corner Road and Route 5 in Mechanicsville.
A 17-year-old female was driving a passenger car that collided with a full-sized pickup truck towing a car-trailer.
Mechanicsville Volunteer Firefighters quickly removed the passenger after gaining access to the vehicle, but had to remove the roof, doors and roll the dash in order to remove the driver, reports Asst. Chief John Raley.
The driver and a 16-year-old male passenger were flown from the scene to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda by Maryland State Police helicopters.
The driver and passenger of the truck were not injured.
