La Plata, MD – For Stephen Dayshawn Jordan, 19 of Indian Head, and Eric William Broome, 18 of Waldorf, Monday, March 9 was a day of reckoning in Charles County Circuit Court.

Both men were facing sentencing before Judge Amy J. Bragunier for the April 2014 assault on a victim in Indian Head.

Likewise, the two men faced similar charges of attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, armed robbery, robbery, theft of less than $1,000, wear and carry with intent to injure, conspiracy to commit first degree murder, conspiracy to commit first degree assault, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Charles County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney John Stackhouse told the court that on the evening of the event, co-defendant Broome, โ€œproduced a knife and started stabbingโ€ the victim.

โ€œWhile Broome was stabbing the victim, Stephen Jordan began kicking and punching him while he was on the ground,โ€ Stackhouse noted. โ€œEventually, the victim played dead, and the defendants dragged him to the edge of the woods and then went to get a shovel to bury him.โ€

Stackhouse said when the defendants left, the victim began knocking on doors seeking help.

While sentencing was deferred on Jordan, Broome plead guilty to one count of attempted second degree murder. Bragunier sentenced him to 30 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections, suspending all but 10 years and giving the defendant credit for 340 days already served.

Bragunier added that Broome will be on five years of supervised probation upon his release.
