PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Chesapeake Beach woman was served a criminal summons on drug-related charges after Maryland State Police reported finding suspected crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in Prince Frederick.

Kierra Leanne Hawkins, 29, of Chesapeake Beach, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia following the June 11, 2026, traffic stop.

According to charging documents, a Maryland State Police trooper was patrolling in Prince Frederick when he observed a black Chevrolet Cruze traveling on Dares Beach Road. Investigators reported the vehicle’s registration had been suspended for insurance-related reasons, prompting a traffic stop.

Troopers identified the driver and Hawkins as a passenger in the vehicle. Court documents state investigators observed Hawkins acting nervously during the stop.

Authorities requested assistance from a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. According to charging documents, a narcotics-detection dog conducted a scan of the vehicle and gave a positive alert.

Following the alert, investigators searched the vehicle and requested that a female deputy respond to the scene to conduct a search of Hawkins. Court records state Hawkins eventually advised deputies that she possessed controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia concealed on her person and voluntarily retrieved the items.

According to the statement of charges, authorities recovered a cigarette box containing two glass smoking devices allegedly containing suspected crack cocaine, a folded dollar bill allegedly containing suspected crack cocaine and one suspected crack cocaine rock weighing approximately 5 grams.

Court records show a summons was issued June 11.

A preliminary inquiry is set for July 27 in Calvert District Court.
