Ukrainian Police Major Tours St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – This week, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office hosted Major Ellona Kuropata, Deputy Commander of KORD, a rapid response unit with the National Police of Ukraine in the Kyiv region. During her visit, Major Kuropata toured our headquarters, the Detention and Rehabilitation Center, and the Community Corrections Center, exploring the county.

As part of her travels in the United States, Major Kuropata is visiting several locations, and we were thrilled to welcome her to meet our dedicated Deputies and Correctional Officers and exchange ideas and insights.

Sheriff Steve Hall remarked, “Opportunities to spend time with people like Major Kuropata are rare. It was a privilege to discuss the similarities and differences we experience in service and the challenges we face in this profession. Learning about Ukraine—her people and protectors—was sobering and inspiring. Hers is the face of courage. We wish her Godspeed and His protection.”
