At 6:19 p.m. Sunday, as rain and storms were passing through Southern Maryland, area firefighters were dispatched to 28310 Flora Corner Road for a working house fire, reports Hollywood Volunteer Firefighter Ernest Rogers.

Hollywood VFD Truck Company 7 and Engine 74 responded moments after dispatch with a total of 12 volunteers.ย  As units were responding to the call, Mechanicsville Engine 24 arrived on location with heavy fire coming from the front of the house.

The crew from Engine 24 laid a 4″ line from the driveway and advanced a hand line into the structure.ย  As the crew from Engine 24 made a good knock on the fire, Mechanicsville Tanker 2 arrived, followed shortly after by additional units, including crews from Hughesville VFD.

Once units from Mechanicsville, Hughesville, and Hollywood accomplished their duties, they awaited the Fire Marshal to arrive and complete his investigation.

After the Fire Marshal completed his investigation it was found that a candle had ignited the blaze.ย  Units then hit any hot spots and restored their units to return to service.

At 7:41 p.m.ย  hours all Hollywood units were back in quarters, reports Rogers.

There were no injuries reported.
