UPDATE: WALDORF, Md. – A power strip is the culprit of the fire that destroyed the two story split foyer home in Waldorf.

On February 28, 2021, at approximately 6:59 p.m., fire and rescue personnel responded to the second alarm house fire at 10904 Maryland Woods Court in Waldorf. 

Firefighters had the fire under control in 20 minutes. The fire originated in the basement screened-in patio with fire reaching the attic.

A total of 30 firefighters responded to the scene, primarily from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department. There was 1 firefighter injury. The firefighter was transported to MedStar Washington for treatment of minor burns.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal was notified to investigate and they found the fire was the result of an electrical event from a small freezer plugged into a power strip. The smoke alarms were activated. The occupants of the home witnessed the fire and were able to safety escape without injury. The occupants of the home are being assisted by family. 

The structure damage is estimated at $200,000.00 along with $50,000.00 in contents.


WALDORF, Md. — We are receiving reports of a building fire in the area of 10904 Maryland Woods Court in Waldorf, Maryland. 

Units have reportedly been dispatched to a fire which is reaching from the basement to the attic. A second alarm has been requested.

We have received word that there is one injury, however this has not yet been confirmed. We will provide updates as we receive them.
