Update from the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack at 2:21 p.m.:
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack responded to Route 4 at Ponds Wood Rd in Huntingtown on October 29th at 6:13 a.m. for a reported single vehicle motor vehicle collision. Investigation revealed that a 2004 Ford Ranger truck, operated by William Sullivan, 28 of Hollywood, was traveling south on Rt.4 in Huntingtown. As the vehicle approached Ponds Wood Road, the driver lost control and struck the cement median dividing the Ponds Wood Road turn lane from Rt. 4. The vehicle subsequently struck the traffic signal pole and came to rest in the northbound lanes of Rt. 4. No other vehicles were involved.
A passenger, Amanda Kirk, 26 of Edgewater, died as a result of her injuries. The other passenger, age 2, was flown to Children’s Hospital by Maryland State Police, Trooper 7, with injuries. The driver was checked by medical personnel at the scene and was transported with the child. Troopers from the Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to the scene to reconstruct the accident. Personnel from Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.

On Wednesday, October 29th at approximately 6:15 am, there was a report of an single vehicle accident on Route 4 and Ponds Wood Road in Huntington.
It was reported that three people were in the truck. The passenger was a fatality. The child was flown out by helicopter for treatment. The driver is reported to have gone with the child.
Traffic was extremely delayed due to the accident from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m and is now starting to move at a slow pace. Traffic will be slow in this area for awhile, please continue to take caution.
