UPDATE from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on 9/24/14 at 2:33 p.m.:

The incident at Leonardtown High School is over. The school has been returned to normal operations and dismissal will be as usual.

The report was false and an apprehension has been made. More information will be released as the investigation progresses.

Thank you to the students, school staff, and parents for your continued cooperation and patience throughout this incident.

UPDATE from the Leonardtown High School Principal on 9/24/14 at 2:33 p.m.:

Thank you for your patience.  The event at Leonardtown High School is over.  Students will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m., which is our normal dismissal time.  Police were able to confirm that the call made to the school regarding the threat was a prank.

After school activities are cancelled due to weather, except for the away Volleyball game.

There is no active threat. Students and teachers are safe.  We are following protocol.  The SMCSD is managing the event.  There is no need to report to the school.  I will continue to send updates as they become available.

UPDATE from the St. Mary’s County Public School’s website:

Leonardtown High School received a non confirmed verbal threat at 11:25 a.m. this morning. The school is currently on lockdown. Law enforcement authorities have been notified and are responding. Currently there is no active threat or danger at the school. Additional information will be provided as it is available.


UPDATE from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on September 24th at 11:55 a.m.:

A short time ago, a single report of a nonspecific verbal threat was received at Leonardtown High School. The school was immediately placed on lockdown by school staff in accordance with their protocols. Numerous deputies are at the school at this time.

No violence has occurred. No reports of intruders into the school and non have been found. Please do not go to the school.

Additional information will be released as it is developed.


UPDATE from the Leonardtown High School principal on 9/24/14 at 11:50 a.m.:

At 11:23 a.m. this morning Leonardtown High School received an anonymous call referencing weapons at our school.  As per procedure, we are in Code Red while we coordinate and investigate with the SMC Sheriff’s office.  I will update this message as the events unfold.
