UPDATE: On Dec. 23, at approximately 7:30 a.m. Deputy P. Bowen of the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office was operating a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, marked police cruiser, traveling northbound in lane 1 of Maryland Route 5 approaching Moakley Street in Leonardtown.ย A vehicle, traveling in lane 2 of northbound Maryland Route 5 next to Deputy Bowenโs vehicle, was turning right onto Moakley Street.
A 2001 Honda 4 door driven by Ryan Duke Aud, 22 of Lexington Park was exiting Moakley Street, failed to yield right of way, and struck Deputy Bowenโs vehicle, forcing him across southbound route 5 and into a snow bank.ย No one was transported to the hospital and Aud was issued a citation for โfail to yield right of wayโ.

Authorities are on the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Leonardtown near the intersection of Route 5 and Moakley Street.
The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. and involves a St. Mary’s County Officer.
No injuries have been reported.
Traffic is backed in the vicinity of the crash. Expect heavy delays.
