UPDATE: On Sunday, May 24 at 9:54 p.m., DFC Aaron Locke was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle for suspicion of driving while under the influence on southbound Md. Route 4 near Main Street in Huntingtown.ย
Upon activating his emergency equipment, the vehicle, a 1998 Ford Windstar van, moved from the left lane to the right lane.ย A silver SUV that was in front of the van traveling in the right lane moved to the shoulder forcing the Windstar off the roadway.ย The driver of the Windstar lost control and struck a telephone pole then struck the brick and cinderblock sign of Mexico Restaurant.ย The vehicle skidded through the parking lot of the Mexico Restaurant.ย While sliding, flying debris struck the back of a parked vehicle.ย The Windstar then hit another parked vehicle causing that vehicle to strike another one and a brick building, collapsing the front and side cinderblock walls.ย The Windstar then spun and struck a third vehicle, where it came to rest.ย
The driver of the Windstar, identified as Delvon Vashone Gantt, 29 of Lusby, who refused medical treatment, was charged with driving while intoxicated.ย No one was injured.

At approximately 9:55 p.m., on Sunday, May 24, the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad had a report of an auto accident at the Mexico Restaurant in Huntingtown, just south of Hillside Court on Route 4 South.

Witnesses reported that this appeared to be a routine traffic stop, but the driver of that the minivan decided to run from police. After a short chase, the minivan ran off the road, struck a utility pole destroying it, which caused the pole to fall to ground.

The suspect vehicle continued forward and struck the Mexico Restaurant sign, careened into a blue Altima and at least two other vehicles. The drastic impact of the minivan forced a car into a small motel room causing its wall to collapse.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was the only person injured, but did not require transport and was subsequently arrested.

Because of the damage done to power pole, it knocked out the power all the way to Prince Frederick, 5 miles South of the accident. The South bound lanes of Route 4 were closed until power pole could be fixed and did not open until around 6:00 am Monday morning.
