Update on Three-Vehicle Crash that Killed 7-Year-Old

Units from Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched on Memorial Day afternoon to Crain Highway (Rt. 301) and St. Patricks Drivefor the vehicle crash with persons trapped.

Responding units were advised enroute that there were two overturned vehicles with multiple subjects trapped. Units from Waldorf, LaPlata and Accokeek were clearing the scene from an odor of smoke in the Oakwood neighborhood.

Arriving crews found two vehicles overturned, with five people trapped in one car (two adults, and three small children), and another overturned car, with a male subject who had apparently crawled out of the vehicle.

Crews worked together to quickly to extricate the patients. EMS and Medic crews treated the patients and prepared them for the helicopters.

Two children were flown to Childrens National Medical Center and three adults were flown to Washington Hospital Center.

Tragically one patient, a 7-year-old boy, was pronounced dead on the scene.
