3 January 2008:ย  Update – 2nd Carjacker Identified, Found

The Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office has identified the second suspect involved in an armed carjacking in La Plata on Dec. 27.

Major Crimes Unit detectives have an arrest warrant for Delante Jerome Arrington, 17, of Washington, D.C. The warrant was obtained on Saturday, Dec. 29, charging Arrington as an adult with armed carjacking and other felonies. CCSO officers will serve the warrant once Arrington is released from a facility in another jurisdiction, where he is being held as a juvenile for an unrelated incident.

The investigation began last Thursday at 4:45 a.m., when Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officers responded to the Dash In convenience store on Crain Highway in La Plata after the report of the armed carjacking. Two male suspects approached a 46-year-old Hughesville woman, brandished a handgun and demanded her property. The suspects then stole her vehicle and fled the scene.

Officers found the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The suspects, however, fled at a high rate of speed, until shortly after three of the vehicleโ€™s tires were deflated by stop sticks. Both suspects then fled on foot into nearby woods. Sheriffโ€™s officers, a K9 team and a Maryland State Police helicopter searched the area but located only one of the suspects, the passenger, Dujuan Terez Hailstocks, 19, of Washington, D.C.

Hailstocks was arrested last Thursday. He faces charges of armed robbery, armed carjacking, first-degree assault, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. The weapon was also recovered in the area where the suspects fled. Detectives continued the investigation and identified the driver of the vehicle as Arrington. Det. J. Elliott investigated.
