At 5:48 A.M. on the morning of June 17, 2011, emergency rescue crews were dispatched for the rescue assignment at the 28000 block of Three Notch Road. Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2, Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 29, and Hughesville Volunteer Rescue Fire Department Co. 2 EMS were dispatched.ย Shortly after dispatch Lieutenant 29A arrived on scene advising a T-bone style collision with a high priority patient trapped and a helicopter was request to transport the trapped patient to a trauma center. At this point Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2, St. Mary’s Advance Life Support and the MD State Trooper helicopter was alerted. MVFD Co. 2 responded to the scene with Squad 2 and Engine 23, MVRS Co. 29 with Ambulance 298, HVFD Co. 2 with Squad 2 and Ambulance 27, and SMALS with medic 291. Shortly after MVFD’s squad 2’s arrival, they requested to cancel all incoming units do the patient succumbing to their injuries. No other patients were transported by emergency crews from this incident. Crews were on scene of the incident for 43 minutes.

ย UPDATED 1:06PM: POLICE REPORT:
On June 17, 2011 at approximately 5:46 am patrol units from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded for the report of a serious motor vehicle accident onย Route 5 Southbound justย south of Hill’s Club Road.ย Patrol units arrivedย to find members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department already on the scene.ย Investigation revealed a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, operated by Heather Rae Woy, 61 of Summerville, South Carolina had been traveling Northbound in the Southbound lanes of Route. 5. Mrs. Woy’s vehicle then reportedly completed a u-turn in the middle of Route 5. As Mrs. Woy’s vehicle entered the roadway from the Southbound shoulder, crossed over laneย # 2 and made a left turnย towards the parking lot of the 7-11 and was struck in the driver’s door by a 1999 Ford F-150, operated by Thomas Edward Adams Jr., 19 of LaPlata, Maryland traveling Southbound in lane # 1.ย Mrs. Woy succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash.ย The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Teamย responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
