On Saturday, March 19, 2011, at approximately 11:56 pm, the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad had a report of a chimney fire on Soper Road.ย The first alarm was sounded on the original dispatch and shortly after the Chief Officer arrived on the scene, a second alarm was dispatched.

Every company in Calvert County (Huntingtown, Prince Frederick, Dunkirk, St. Leonard, North Beach and Solomons) was on the call now.ย Also, companies from Harwood, Hollywood and Benedict were on the second alarm.ย There were tankers not only from Calvert County, but from other multi aid counties to supply water.

At approximately 12:20 am, the evaluation alarm was sounded as the fire had reached unsafe conditions and there was the need to get firefighters out of the house.

There were several firefighters hurt around this time with burns.ย Two firefighters were transported by helicopter to Washington Medical Center for treatment.ย Condition was reported as serious.ย There were four other firefighters transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.ย Two of the firefighters who were transported to CMH were later transported to University Hospital in Baltimore and Baltimore Shock Trauma.ย Much of the condition on the firefighters is unknown at this time and it is not sure if more injuries than what was mentioned already.

The Red Cross was at the scene to help the homeowners, and the Fire Marshall is doing an investigation of the fire.

It has been mentioned that the value of the house was in the $2m area.

The fire departments were on the fire scene over (6) hours and still dealing with the situation after that time.
