An extensive investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal has revealed the suspects responsible for setting fire to a 2001 Audi four door sedan on August 7, 2011. The remains of the vehicle were located at the dead end of Mattawoman Creek Road in Marbury, Charles County. Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $5,000.
During the course of the investigation, investigators located witnesses that observed and reported details of a suspicious vehicle leaving the area when the fire occurred. On December 14, 2011, a contact was established with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in Reston, Virginia, concerning a suspect in their custody who revealed his actions involved with the burning of his wife’s vehicle in Charles County, Maryland. Investigators determined the suspect; Marco Rojas Sanchez (35) operated one of the vehicles observed by witnesses and was responsible for intentionally setting fire to his wife’s vehicle with the assistance of another suspect, Alejandro Munoz (26). Sanchez was served with an arrest warrant on January 5, 2012 at the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, Virginia, where he was being held. Munoz was served with a criminal summons this morning at his home without incident.
If convicted of the arson charges, both men face penalties of up to 25 years imprisonment and/or $35,000 in fines.
