Violet Mary Edwards, 63, of Newburg, MD (formerly of Valley Lee, MD) passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 with her loving family at her side.
She was born on July 11, 1962 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Bernard “Sonny” Kerwin and Zita Mary “Zee” (nee: Taroni) Kerwin. She is a lifelong resident of Southern Maryland, graduating in 1981 from St. Mary’s Academy.
Violet had a witty sense of humor and infectious smile. She was always ready to have a good time, no matter where she was or who she was with. She loved people and demonstrated it with her family, friends and clients that she cared for. She spent her career working as a dedicated caretaker, serving families throughout St. Mary’s County. Her greatest love was for her children and grandchildren. While her children were growing up, she was always their biggest supporter and encouraged them in school, sports they played, and other extracurricular activities. She continued that support into adulthood helping them through life challenges. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed taking them on walks, doing arts and crafts, cooking, playing, whatever they wanted to do, she was thrilled to be part of it. She was an excellent cook, learning from her mother, and passing on some of the family favorites to her own children into adulthood, including her cornflake chicken.
Violet is survived by her sons, Denton John Edwards (Whitney) of Hollywood, MD and Ryan Marshall Edwards of Middle River, MD; her sisters, Anita Gerek (Joe) of St. Mary’s City, Veronica “Vicky” Estevez (Donnie) of Newburg, MD; brother-in-law, J.D. Lacey of Loveville, MD; beloved grandchildren: Arielle Kerwin Edwards, Autumn Elaina Edwards, and Denton John Edwards, Jr.; nieces and nephews: Kim Owens (Jason), Jeff Gerek (Pam), Terri Dean (Dennis), Andrew Gerek, Ashley Estevez, Rachel Estevez, and Corey Estevez; and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Joann P. Lacey and granddaughter, Rylynn Marie Edwards.
Family will receive friends for Violet’s Life Celebration on June 25, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service celebrated by Reverend Scott Woods, at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22945 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will be private.
