Marcellus Franklin Thomas

WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing multiple firearm and weapons-related charges after a search of his home uncovered several guns, ammunition, and body armor following a reported shooting incident.

Marcellus Franklin Thomas, 37, of Waldorf, has been charged with illegal possession of ammunition, illegal possession of a firearm, wearing and carrying a handgun, possession of a loaded handgun, possession of bulletproof armor, and illegal possession of a rifle or shotgun, according to court documents.

The charges stem from an investigation into a March 21, 2026 shooting in the area of a 7-Eleven on St. Ignatius Drive in Waldorf.

According to charging documents, detectives identified Thomas as a suspect in the shooting and obtained a search warrant for his residence.

On March 24, members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant at Thomas’ home, where he was taken into custody.

During the search, investigators recovered multiple firearms, including a .38 caliber revolver, a 9mm handgun, an AR-15 style rifle, and shotguns, along with ammunition, extended magazines, and tactical accessories. Officers also located multiple ballistic vests and body armor inside the residence.

Authorities said Thomas admitted to firing a gun during the incident, claiming he acted out of fear for his safety. Investigators also determined that he is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior conviction involving a violent offense.

Court records show Thomas was held without bond following a review before Judge Patrick J. Devine in Charles County District Court.

A trial is scheduled for May 15, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
