La Plata, MD – Kevin Jerrell Johnson, 33 of Waldorf, was sentenced to 12 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections Tuesday, Dec. 9 by Charles County Circuit Court Judge Helen I. Harrington for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute following a search and seizure in April of 2014.

Harrington told Johnson that as the result of a plea agreement with the Charles County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, there would be no suspended sentence and he would have to serve the full 12 years of his sentence.

โ€œHad the state proceeded with its evidence against you, it would be determined that you had a significant amount of crack cocaine and that you intended to sell,โ€

Harrington added. โ€œIt was more than just for personal use.โ€

Charles County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Jonathan Beasley told the court that officers from the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office executed a search and seizure warrant on Johnsonโ€™s Waldorf residence April 9, 2014 and located Johnson at the Dash-in on St. Charles Parkway.

โ€œThey took him to his address where he was Mirandized,โ€ Beasley said. โ€œMr. Johnson agreed to waive his Miranda right and told the officers he was carrying a quantity of crack cocaine on his person.

Beasley said officers found approximately 14 grams of cocaine on Johnson, and located two scales and several unused sandwich baggies in his bedroom. Officers confiscated 13.67 grams of cocaine which was later analyzed and determined to be crack cocaine, and $1,800 is United States currency. He added that Johnson has a violation of probation charge which he said was โ€œtrailing this case.โ€

Harrington gave Johnson seven days credit for time already served in the two cases, and said he must report to the Charles County Detention Center April 15, 2015.

โ€œI hope when you come out you go on to a better life,โ€ Harrington said.
