Maryland State Fire Marshalls are investigating a house fire that broke out on April 3 around 5:43 p.m.,ย in the 2700 block of Hadley Drive in Waldorf.
Over 20 firefighters from Waldorf, Brandywine and La Plata arrived on the scene to find heavy fire coming from the two story town home.
The fire was discovered by the occupant of the home in the first floor furnace room. Smoke alarms were present and functional, which allowed for the homeowner to escape the blaze without injury.
Investigation revealed the fire was accidental as a result of combustible storage which came into contact with the burner of a gas water heater which ignited.
Damage estimate rings in at $100,000. The occupant of the home was displaced and is being assisted by family and friends.
