Ryan W. Baird andย Randi L. Becker
Lexington Park, MD— On April 1, Maryland State Police Trooper Robert Geyer was on-duty operating a police vehicleย on Three Notch Road and Great Mills Road in Lexington Park. Geyer activated his emergencyย equipment and conducted a traffic stop.ย
Contact was made with the driver of the motor vehicle. The driver identified himself as Ryan W. Baird, 24 of Chaptico. In addition to Baird, there were two passengers. They were identified as Randi L. Becker, 23 of Mechanicsville and Kristina H. Beggs, 38 of Lexington Park.ย
Geyer observed several verbal and nonverbal signs of distress. Geyer also advised, “The operator’s carotid artery was excessively pulsating in his neck,” according to charging documents. Geyer asked for a K9 Officer to respond to the scene for a scan.ย
Geyer had all the occupants exit the vehicle, and the K9 Officer conductedย the a search on the occupants and theย vehicle. The search on the occupants came back negative. However, the scan on the vehicleย came back positive. During the search of the vehicle, Geyer located black brass knucklesย in the center glove box.ย
All three occupants were read their Mirandaย Rights. Baird stated, “The brass knuckles belong to me, and I didn’t know they were illegal,” according to charging documents. Also, a blue bag was located in the front seat of the vehicle. Inside the blue bag were two plastic straws, one silver and white grater, and one plasticย baggie containing an unknown white substance. ย
Geyer asked the occupants who the blue bag belonged to andBecker stated, it was hers. Geyer then asked what the white substance in the plastic baggies was and Becker replied, that it was Suboxone. Becker added that she didn’t know that she needed a prescriptionย for the Suboxone.ย
Baird and Becker were both arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where they were charged. Baird was charged with concealing a dangerousย weapon and Becker was charged with possession of CDS not marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.ย
Baird has a scheduled court date for June 7 in District Courthouse, and Becker has a scheduled court date also in Districtย Court June 9.ย
Baird faces a maximum jail sentence of three years and or a maximum fine of $1,000, and Becker faces a maximum jail sentence of four years and or a maximum fine of $25,500.ย
