Heavy rains and flooding caused the high school football schedule to be adjusted all around the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference over the weekend. In a game originally scheduled for Thursday Sept 30, Huntingtown (3-2) beat Calvert (1-4) 50-13 behind 244 yards rushing and two TD’s from Davonte Fletcher and two short first half TD’s from Eric Bose. In the second half, Nick Ersoy added two TD’d including one of 62 yards for the Hurricanes.
Patuxent (3-2) traveled to face their north county rivals Northern (2-3). RB Justin Bond started Northern’s first series with a 55 yd run and a 5 yd TD as the Patriots scored on a three play 60 yard drive and the rout was on as Northern rolled 41-7. Bond later added a 15 yard TD run. Senior QB Patrick Cleary led his troops with a 5 yard bootleg for a TD. Chris Baxa, Ashani Blakley and Joe Sharkey added short TD runs for Northern. Patuxent got on the scoreboard with 4:01 remaining in the game on a one yard run from Rafiq Douglas.
In the only other game played on Friday night, North Point (5-0) dominated on the ground behind 29 rushes, 188 yards and two TD’s from the SMAC’s leading rusher Emmanuel Okanoya. Onakoya is listed as fifth in Maryland with 806 yards rushing through five games.

At McDonough (4-1) on Saturday morning (10 a.m. kickoff), the Rams beat Chopticon (2-3) 20-12, in a tough, hard hitting battle as Devante Gray scored two long receiving TD’s (43 and 23 yards)ย and Adam Knight added two clutch FG’s (32 and 28 yds). The Braves special teams stepped up again with a punt block and recovery in the end zone by TJ Graham. JW Smith had a 17 yard TD reception from Cody Douglas in the second quarter.after a missed PAT and a missed 2 point conversion McDonough led 14-12 at halftime.
The Braves offense could not get things going in the second half leaning again on their strong defense to keep the score close. The game was homecoming for McDonough.
In Prince George’s County, Potomac (4-1) dominated Thomas Stone (0-5) as Ronald Darby scored on offense (10 yd TD run) defense (90 yd interception return) and special teams (80 yard opening kickoff return TD). Dondre Echols had two interceptions and recovered a fumble and returned it 35 yards for a TD for Potomac as well.
The Leonardtown Raiders (2-2) homecoming game against Westlake (3-1) was moved to tonight (Monday Oct 4, 2010) and will be broadcast live on Baynet Radio. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
