La Plata. MD – For many, St. Patrickโ€™s Day has become a popular holiday to celebrate.

Unfortunately, due to the large volume of impaired drivers, the entire day has also become dangerous. To better protect county roadways and the people who travel them, members of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office, along with the Maryland State Police, La Plata Town police and the Maryland Transit Authority police, will conduct several driving under the influence (DUI) saturation patrols throughout the county starting Friday, March 13 and ending Wednesday, March 18 at 3 a.m.

Officers will be looking for impaired drivers. A DUI checkpoint will take place on Tuesday, March 17 at an undisclosed location in the county.

Sheriff Troy D. Berry said officers are committed to keeping motorists and pedestrians safe. โ€œIf you want to celebrate, make sure you designate a sober driver. Itโ€™s just that simple.โ€
