St. Mary’s County, MD —  A weekend sobriety checkpoint conducted by Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack, assisted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office resulted in two arrests and three civil citations.

The checkpoint was set up on southbound Maryland Route 235 (Three Notch Road) at First Colony Boulevard in California.

Assisting with the checkpoint were personnel from the Maryland State Police Chemical Test for Alcohol Unit, La Plata and Prince Fredrick Barracks, and the Maryland Department of Transportation. 

The checkpoint lasted more than two hours with 528 vehicles passing through. Two people were arrested for driving under the influence while three individuals received civil citations for possessing less than 10 grams of marijuana. 

The Maryland State Police reminds all drivers that if they plan to drink, they should have a designated driver or arrange for alternate transportation.
