UPDATE 4:20 pm – According to numerous sources intimately familiar with the situation, the White House is no longer on lockdown.

Washington, D.C. – A shooting occurred near the White House Friday afternoon on 17th Street and E Street in Washington, D.C. One patient has been transported to the hospital with critical injuries after being shot by a member of the Secret Service.

According to a witness on the scene, the man who was shot was brandishing a silver gun while walking toward the White House. Despite being told to repeatedly stop and drop the weapon, the man was insubordinate, leading to the Secret Service’s decision to shoot the man.

As a precautionary measure, the White House is on lockdown.

President Obama, who was out playing golf, was not in the White House at the time of the incident, but Vice President Joe Biden was.

According to police, traffic around the area will be slowed down for at least two hours.
