La Plata, MD – For Mya Lamari Wood, 18 of Waldorf, charged with sexual abuse of a minor, a status hearing turned into much more when she accepted a plea bargain Monday, July 25 before Charles County Circuit Court Judge H. James West in La Plata.
Charles County Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah K. Freeman told the court that the alleged abuse began when the defendant was between the ages of 14 and 16 years old.
“She performed or had sexual contact with a child less than three years of age,” Freeman said. “The defendant did make an admission to the conduct and said that the victim was her nephew.”
West ordered that Wood undergo a psychiatric evaluation and pushed sentencing out 60 days to Sept. 21.
The judge asked the defendant’s father if there were any other children in the house.
“My daughter,” the father said. “There are no issues with the two of them.”
“Until we go to sentencing, she is to have no unsupervised contact with her sibling,” the judge said.
Under the terms of the agreement, Wood will get 10 years, all suspended, and will be placed on five years of supervised probation, Freeman said.
