WALDORF, Md. — A Washington, D.C. woman is facing theft charges after authorities say she attempted to leave a Waldorf Target store with hundreds of dollars in unpaid merchandise by switching price tags.

Ileshia Delois Rush, 53, of Washington, D.C., was charged following an incident on April 19, 2026, at the Target store on Western Parkway, according to court documents.

Deputies responded around 2:58 p.m. for a reported theft. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a loss prevention employee who reported observing Rush switching price stickers on items and scanning lower-priced merchandise at checkout while failing to pay for other items.

According to the investigation, Rush completed a transaction totaling approximately $41.74 but had additional unpaid merchandise valued at $599.72.

Authorities say the items included a variety of retail goods such as a baby monitor, clothing, and household items including kitchenware and dining products.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators confirmed the actions described by store personnel, leading to the charges.

Rush was issued an unsecured personal bond of $600, which was posted on April 19, 2026.

Under Maryland law, theft involving property valued between $100 and $1,500 is punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a $500 fine.

A hearing is set for June 3, 2026 in Charles District Court.
