Waldorf, MD โ€“ State authorities reported an unidentified woman sustained second-and third-degree burns to her hand Wednesday, Sept. 24 when attempting to extinguish a blaze at a Charles County home. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the fire was reported at 12:33 p.m. and occurred at a one-story, single-family dwelling on Slys Place in Waldorf.

โ€œA small fire occurred on the dining room floor due to embers from a candle igniting combustible material,โ€ Dfm. Caryn McMahon stated. The 33-year-old female occupant โ€œwas burned when attempting to extinguish the fire. She was treated and released from Ft. Washington Hospital.โ€

Nine firefighters from Waldorf were dispatched to the scene and brought the flames under control in one minute. Property damage is estimated at $250.
