Waldorf, MD – State authorities reported an unidentified woman sustained second-and third-degree burns to her hand Wednesday, Sept. 24 when attempting to extinguish a blaze at a Charles County home. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was reported at 12:33 p.m. and occurred at a one-story, single-family dwelling on Slys Place in Waldorf.
“A small fire occurred on the dining room floor due to embers from a candle igniting combustible material,” Dfm. Caryn McMahon stated. The 33-year-old female occupant “was burned when attempting to extinguish the fire. She was treated and released from Ft. Washington Hospital.”
Nine firefighters from Waldorf were dispatched to the scene and brought the flames under control in one minute. Property damage is estimated at $250.
