Gary Jobson brings his popular sailing presentation to Solomons Island.

It’s an opportunity that even the most avid sailing enthusiasts don’t often get, the chance be in close proximity to sailing authority Gary Jobson.  On Thursday, April 19th, Jobson brings his “Championship Sailing” program to the Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA) clubhouse in Solomon’s.

“The last time I saw one of Jobson’s presentations was at the Baltimore Hippodrome,” SMSA Publicity Chairman Tim Flaherty told The Bay Net. 

Several of SMSA’s members have seen Jobson’s presentations over the years but at much bigger venues.  Hosting Jobson at a small venue like the SMSA clubhouse is a big deal.  The members are very excited at the prospect of seeing Jobson up close and talking to him. 

For many years, Jobson has been ESPN’s sailing analyst.  He contributes his expertise to worldwide broadcasts of America’s Cup, broadcasts of the Whitbread/Volvo Around the World races and other high-profile events.  

Jobson is an author and editor-at-large for Sailing World and Cruising World magazines. He’s known throughout the English-speaking world as the United States’ pre-eminent ambassador of sailing.

Jobson’s passion for sailing led him to three All-American titles at Maritime College in New York State, and College Sailor of the Year twice.  In 1977, he was the tactician aboard Courageous when the Ted Turner-skippered boat won the America’s Cup.  In 2003, Jobson was inducted into the Herreshoff Marine Museum America’s Cup Hall of Fame.

SMSA Publicity Chairman Tim Flaherty told the Bay Net he’s looking forward to exciting video footage and insider information from Jobson about high profile events like the America’s Cup and Around the World races.  Slides, video and commentary from the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team, Key West Race Week and other big-time sailing events are also part of the presentation.

8:00 p.m. – Social hour with Jobson. His latest work “Gary J
