The York Revolution avoided a sweep as they got a great pitching performance out of Chris Cody, taking the final game of the series Wednesday night, 4-1. The series win still goes to the Blue Crabs which is their fifth series win in a row. Itโs that type of winning that has kept Southern Maryland at the top of the Liberty Division second half standings. Their first place lead currently stands at 4 games.ย
But in this game, the Blue Crabs fell victim to Chris Cody and his effectiveness. In seven innings of work, Cody (10-12) allowed only 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1 and receiving the win.ย
York also got some effective offense in the fifth inning, posting three runs. The inning was highlighted by a RBI single by Ramon Castro and a two run homer by Joe Thurston.ย
The Southern Maryland offense wasย ledย by Short stop Kevin Rios as he went 2 for 3 at the plate, with a double, 1 run and 1 RBI.ย
Blue Crabs starter Matthew Vasquez (9-7) didnโt have his dominating stuff but had a decent outing while receiving the loss. Through seven innings, he allowed 4 runs with 3 strike outs and 1 walk.ย
The Blue Crabs now have an off day Thursday and will then head to Lancaster for the first of three series against the Barnstormers in the final weeks of the season. The three game series will conclude on Sunday and the team will head back home on Labor Day toย beginย an eight game home stand.
