Collection points have been established in Southern Maryland for a regional effort to help the victims of the devastating Oklahoma tornado. The effort has been spearheaded by an organization called Heroes for the Homeland, which was founded by Prince Georgeโ€™s police officer Chris Johnson. The Superheroes of Southern Maryland have joined in the drive so it is bound to be successful.

Volunteers from the ranks of firefighters and police officers in Southern Maryland and Prince Georgeโ€™s and Anne Arundel counties are expected to leave the FOP Lodge 89 in Upper Marlboro on June 2. They are filling a trailer parked at the lodge with donations dropped off there and at a number of other locations throughout the region.

One of those drop-off points is the St. Maryโ€™s Community Mediation Center, 41620 Courthouse Drive in Leonardtown across the street from the courthouse and behind the Weiner Building. Call 301-475-9118 for drop off times.

The center is also partnering with Superheroes of Southern Maryland for two supply pick up days:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Tuesday, May 28, 5-8 p.m. at Moeโ€™s Southwest Grill in Lusby

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Thursday, May 30, 5-8 p.m. at St. Johnโ€™s Pharmacy in Hollywood.

The Superheroes will be present at both locations to help with donation collections.

Items being accepted for donation are: work gloves, rakes, shovels, brooms, bottled water, non-perishable food, sunscreen, bug spray, medical supplies (hand sanitizer, Neosporin, Band-Aids, etc.), trash bags, cleaners, towels, baby wipes and personal hygiene items.

They also need to raise approximately $3,000-$4,000, so monetary contributions are encouraged. To find out how to make a monetary contribution go to their website: h
