Dorchester County, MD — Two young fishermen enjoyed success fishing in Maryland this summer.
Dustin Stem was the grand prize winner of this year’s Freedom and Fishing Derby held at Harriett Tubman State Park in June. In the picture below, Dustin is holding a 10-pound northern snakehead.

More than 100 participants took to the water to catch as many of these invasive predators as they could. All told, anglers caught more than 24 northern snakehead during the daylong event!
Scott Hartzell also saw angling success. The 14-year-old from Eastonย caught this 3.375-pound Florida pompano on Stone Rock near Tilghman Island. His catch earned him the very first title for the Florida pompano in Maryland.

Hartzell was trolling for bait fish with family and friends when he caught the fish on a gold Clarkspoon โ at the end of few tangled fishing lines.
โWe werenโt sure what it was,โ said Scott Hartzell Sr., the anglerโs father. โWeโve caught crazy fish before but never this.โ
