VALLEY LEE, Md. — A fire that ignited while an employee was working on a vehicle inside Champion Auto Parts on Usher Lane was ruled accidental, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The incident occurred on April 23, 2024, at 2:46 P.M. at the single-story auto parts facility. The employee sustained burns to his upper body and was flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 6 to Washington Hospital Center. There were no additional injuries reported.
However, the building was a total loss as a result of the incident, with an estimated loss of $1,100,000, including $600,000 in structure damage and $500,000 in contents. The smoke alarms were present.
A total of 95 firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire, which took two hours to control.

The reason why they had a fire was because they had chemicals everywhere. The place was disgusting. It will probably happen again in a few years.
