GAMBRILLS, Md. – A two-vehicle crash on Crain Highway (Route 3) near Waugh Chapel Road in Gambrills on April 22, 2024, at approximately 10:25 a.m., resulted in serious injuries for one driver.

Emergency personnel arrived to find a 2009 Peterbilt flatbed tow truck and a 2012 Honda Pilot involved in the collision. The tow truck was stopped at a red traffic signal when the Honda Pilot approached the stopped traffic and failed to slow, striking the rear of the tow truck. The Honda then veered off the roadway and came to rest amongst roadside shrubbery and trees.

The 59-year-old Baltimore man driving the Honda was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. He was later transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in serious, life-threatening condition by Maryland State Police Trooper 2.

The 65-year-old Abingdon man driving the tow truck was not injured in the crash.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
