UPDATE: On September 26 at 7:43 p.m., officers responded to the area of Blair Road and Strauss Avenue in Indian Head for the report of a fight among a large group of people, mostly juveniles.

During the altercation, an unknown male began firing a weapon towards the group, striking two people. A male in his 30s was struck once in the upper body and once in the leg. A 12-year-old female was struck once in the leg. Both victims were transported to hospitals for treatment and both are in stable condition.

INDIAN HEAD, Md. — We are receiving reports of a double shooting that occurred earlier this evening at a large gathering which has sent a child and adult to the hospital. Police are still working to locate the suspect.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on September 26, first responders were called to Strauss Avenue and Blair Road in Indian Head for reports that two people had been shot. Initial reports indicated that an adult male had been shot in the chest area, while an adult female had been shot in the leg. 

It was later determined by first responders that the female who was shot was actually a 12-year-old. 

At around 8:35 p.m., police had confirmed they secured the scene and had made contact with both of the people who were shot, however they had not made contact with the shooter. 

Both individuals are being transported to nearby hospitals for treatment by helicopter. The adult male(estimated to be in his 30s) who was shot is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wound, while the child is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is working to investigate the incident. Anyone with details on the shooting is asked to call Charles County Crime Solvers at 301-932-2222.

One person who had contacted police, told TheBayNet.com that he lived down the road from the incident when it happened, said that he saw some suspicious activity earlier in the evening. Shortly after the shooting, he described seeing an individual who was wearing all grey and a red durag sprinting through the woods, near a ravine and small bridge in his backyard to get to a neighboring street. It is unconfirmed at this time if this is the suspect, however police are investigating the description that the caller gave.
