ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Local Annapolis jeweler Zachary’s is excited to announce another year of its annual Mother’s Day Jewelry Design Contest.
All fifth-grade students in Anne Arundel County are invited to design a piece of one-of-a-kind jewelry inspired by the moms or caregivers who mean the most to them. The contest is open March 1-30.
Students can submit a colorful, hand-drawn design on a standard sheet of paper along with a short handwritten story explaining the inspiration behind their piece to the Zachary’s Jewelers website.
Three winners will be chosen and get to see their designs come to life. Zachary’s will create each of the three winning pieces and present them to the winners at a brunch event in May. In addition to the jewelry, Zachary’s will donate $500 to the winners’ schools’ art programs.
Judges will select the winners based on creativity, the handwritten story and whether the piece can easily be made to closely match the design.
This exciting event gets bigger every year. According to a representative for Zachary’s, 300 students from 39 schools participated in 2025.
Last year’s winning pieces were a dreamcatcher necklace by Neil, a two-tone tree ring by Helen and a red oak leaf necklace by Lucian.
