George Washington Carver Elementary School in St. Maryโ€™s County was presented with a surprise gift ofย back-to-school supply kits for their students in need. What made the gift even more meaningful was that itย came through the efforts of 400 high school student-athletes from across the state who are learning theย importance of leading and serving their communities.

The back to school supply kits were assembled at the annual MPSSAA Student-Athlete Leadershipย Conference which was held at Gaithersburg High School on Thursday, August 4th and funded by an Allstateย Foundation grant.

โ€œThe Allstate Foundation is very proud to support this phenomenal effort involving MPSSAA and ourย Maryland student-athletes.โ€, said Shaundra Turner Jones, Allstate spokesperson. โ€œWe believe a lifelongย commitment to positively impacting the community begins at a young age and we hope the athletes will returnย to their schools inspired to lead and empower other students to take on similar projects in their communities.โ€

Additional Back-to-School kits were also provided to the following elementary schools:

  • Lincoln Elementary School (Frederick County),
  • Gaithersburg Elementary School (Montgomery County),
  • Hyattsville Elementary School (Prince Georges County),
