Near 6:30 p.m. May 10, Calvert County Sheriffโs deputies responded to the Solomons Coin Laundry on Solomons Island Road, for a report of a robbery.
Once on the scene, an employee of the establishment advised that a man displayed a shotgun and demanded money.ย After giving the suspect a small amount of money, the suspect demanded more.ย The employee began to yell that he was being robbed and the suspect fled the establishment.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a grey pick-up truck operated by a black male.ย A look-out was then broadcast to police in the area.
While traveling south on Route 4, Sgt. Kenneth Gregory observed a vehicle matching the description traveling north near Flag Pond Park.ย While turning around, Sergeant Gregory lost sight of the vehicle, however, it was located and stopped minutes later.
It was then determined to be driven by a different person than when it was first seen by Deputy Gregory.ย An interview with the driver revealed that the vehicle was operated by 50-year-old Michael Duane Rogers of Lusby during the time of the robbery.ย Rogers was located at his residence and was transported to Solomons Coin Laundry where he was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him.
Mr. Rogers was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office where he was charged with Armed Robbery, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Theft Under $100 and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure.
Rogers is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center without bond.
