Firefighters from all over Charles County were busy Tuesday morning, Feb. 3 around 2:45 a.m. A fire broke out in the 6900 block of Ralph Myer’s Place in Bryans Road.
The two story single family home, owned by Paul and Nillie Browne, caught fire while the couple were sleeping and were woken up to the sounds of a roaring noise.
Upon investigating, Mr. Browne discovered a fire in the attic area of the home. They were able to safely evacuate the home and call 911. The home sprinkler system did not activate because the fire was mostly confined to the attic area, which is above the sprinkler head locations.
A total of 65 firefighters from Bryans Road, Potomac Heights, Waldorf, Marbury, La Plata, Bel Alton, Indian Head, NSWC Naval Station, Hughesville and PG Fire Department Station 24 helped to battle the blaze. It took crews over an hour and 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Investigation revealed there was a problem with the wood pellet burning stove.
The damage estimate rings in at $800,000.
