
LA PLATA, Md. — Charles County is grieving the loss of retired Sergeant Catherine L. Dodson, #94, whose passing was sadly announced by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. Dodson, a respected and dedicated public servant, passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 80.
Sgt. Dodson, a dedicated member of the force for more than 25 years, served in the Patrol, Support Services, and Special Services divisions, earning widespread respect for her commitment to public safety.
The Sheriff’s Office released a statement expressing their condolences: “In this difficult time, we ask that you keep Sgt. Dodson’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”
To honor her legacy, Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins, II, Esq. has ordered the Charles County flag to be lowered to half-staff starting January 17, 2025. The flag will remain at half-staff until sunset on January 23, 2025, as a tribute to Sgt. Dodson’s dedicated service to the community.
Sgt. Dodson began her law enforcement career in 1976, breaking barriers as a woman in policing and leaving an indelible mark on the department through her professionalism and leadership. Her colleagues and the community remember her as a trailblazer and a compassionate public servant who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of Charles County residents.
