MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A Mechanicsville man is facing multiple assault charges after allegedly attacking three individuals — including two of his own brothers — during a late-night disturbance fueled by alcohol, according to court records filed by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
Marcus Alexzander Lewis, 22, was arrested around midnight on July 11 after deputies responded to reports of a domestic assault involving multiple victims. Court documents indicate that Lewis had arrived at the residence intoxicated hours earlier and continued drinking throughout the evening, allegedly growing increasingly aggressive.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., Lewis began throwing bottles inside the home and shouting, prompting a family friend to intervene. When the friend attempted to de-escalate the situation, Lewis allegedly shoved him out of the residence. The commotion drew in two of Lewis’s brothers — one of whom shares the home — who tried to calm him down, but the defendant allegedly lashed out, scratching and hitting all three men.
Deputies observed red marks on one brother’s body, scratch marks on the neck of the second, and a visible scratch on the friend’s arm. Attempts to speak with Lewis were reportedly unsuccessful due to his intoxication and continued belligerence toward others on scene.
Lewis was charged with three counts of second-degree assault. If convicted, each count carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser presided over Lewis’s bail review on July 14. He remains held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending trial, which is scheduled for Aug. 11 in Courtroom 1 at the District Court in Leonardtown.
Court records list the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office as the prosecuting agency. A public defender has been appointed to represent Lewis.
