Howard Thompson and Ken Ritter

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – At last night’s board meeting, Christmas in April – St. Mary’s County celebrated a milestone in its 35-year history. After 19 years of dedicated leadership as President, Howard Thompson has passed the torch to long-time volunteer Ken Ritter.

Howard has been with Christmas in April since its founding, serving as a volunteer from day one. His nearly two decades as President and lifelong commitment to the organization have been instrumental in ensuring that neighbors in need continue to receive critical home repairs, free of charge. The board extends its deepest gratitude for his service, leadership, and vision.

Ken Ritter, a familiar face who has also dedicated many years of volunteer service, was appointed as the new President. The organization looks forward to his leadership as Christmas in April continues its mission of helping members of our community live in safe, warm, and accessible homes.

In addition, several board members were appointed and reappointed during the meeting, ensuring a strong foundation of dedicated leadership moving forward.

Christmas in April – St. Mary’s County is here to stay. For 35 years, the organization has partnered with volunteers and sponsors to provide free home repairs to those in need, and we remain committed to serving our neighbors for many years to come.
