PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) is hosting a family-friendly “Treats with the Trades” event at Calvert Career & Technology Academy (CTA) at 330 Dorsey Road. The event is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
According to the event page, trick-or-treaters can walk around CTA and enjoy treats, crafts and games provided by the students. Adults can learn about the 14 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at the school. Costumes are encouraged.
The cost of entry is a $5 donation per family, which goes toward CTA’s SkillsUSA chapter. SkillsUSA is an organization that allows students to participate and compete in leadership and technical areas throughout the year.
CTA is part of the CCPS system that helps train and prepare students for future careers, education and to be lifelong learners. The school offers programs ranging from graphic communications to home improvement and carpentry to culinary arts, and provides a unique opportunity for students to get hands-on experience in fields of interest. Some skilled trade jobs are on the list of fastest-growing jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and many young people are exploring these options.
At CTA, students have the chance to enroll in dual-credit classes in nearby colleges and participate in internships to further prepare them for the next phase of their education or training. SkillsUSA helps empower students to learn skilled trades by providing frameworks and resources in classrooms.
“Treats with the Trades” is an exciting opportunity for the community to learn more about what CTA offers and support our dedicated students as they learn valuable skills.
