MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Community members in Southern Maryland are rallying to support a Mechanicsville man who lost his home and belongings in a devastating mobile home fire just days before Christmas.

The fire broke out Friday afternoon, Dec. 19, in the 27000 block of Mount Zion Church Road, destroying a single-wide trailer and leaving the resident, Robert, with nothing but the clothes he was wearing. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames and were forced to conduct a defensive operation due to the intensity of the fire. No injuries were reported, but the structure was a total loss. The cause remains under investigation.

In the aftermath, friends and family have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Robert cover immediate needs as he begins the difficult process of rebuilding. According to the fundraiser, the fire claimed all of his personal belongings during what is typically a time of celebration and togetherness.

Funds raised will go toward temporary housing, food, clothing, transportation costs, and other basic necessities as Robert works to regain stability. Supporters say even small donations can make a meaningful difference as he navigates the weeks ahead.

  1. Serious question .. I hate stories like this because it affects someone’s life devastating .. The issue we should be informed if the person affected has some sort of insurance , renters , homeowners , mobile home …
For there to be a GFM set up there needs to be an unmet need ie , no insurance.
If there is insurance there is no need for GFM.. Some people use situations like this for their on gain and actually defraud the public when they have insurance and then ask for money doing GFM donations.. Less people trust GFM because some people start these GFM campaigns when they have insurance ..
Public trust is tarnished and people become skeptical of GFM campaigns when some people use this tragedy for their own gain when they have insurance that will cover their loss… We need to know if they have insurance…

  2. Even if he has insurance he will still need help NOW. The insurance company doesn’t come to the scene and write you a check. Its a process..the man lost EVERYTHING!! I am sure those who are able to help will do so with or without him having insurance and I wouldn’t think losing everything would be a personal gain being used here. This is a tragic incident that occurred and the man needs help. Geez….
