WALDORF, Md. — Emergency crews responded Sunday afternoon after a sedan crashed into a small commercial building on Central Avenue, injuring the driver and prompting a structural safety assessment.

The crash was reported at 3:41 p.m. on May 31 after multiple callers said a white sedan had struck a building near the Golden Corral off Crain Highway. As units arrived, responders updated the location from Crain Highway to 11701 Central Ave.

Fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel found the vehicle fully inside the structure. The driver, an 83‑year‑old man, was reported to be conscious, alert and breathing after briefly blacking out prior to the crash. EMS crews evaluated the patient on scene.

Power to the building had been cut before fire department arrival. Emergency services requested Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) to respond and secure the electrical meter. A county building inspector was also requested to assess a possible obstruction or compromise to the rear wall.

Units from Charles County and mutual‑aid partners responded. Incident command was terminated at approximately 3:53 p.m. No additional injuries were reported and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
