Prince Frederick Man Charged In Waldorf Food Lion Theft After Steaks, Sausages Reported Stolen

WALDORF, Md. — A Prince Frederick man was arrested and charged after police say he stole meat and other items from a Waldorf Food Lion, left the store without paying and was later found with suspected drug paraphernalia after officers stopped a vehicle on Route 5, according to court documents.

Robert Darnell Willett, 63, of Prince Frederick, is charged with misdemeanor theft of $100 to under $1,500 and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

The charges stem from an incident reported around 11:32 a.m. May 20, 2026, at the Food Lion at 3200 Old Washington Road in Waldorf.

According to a statement of probable cause filed in Charles County District Court, Charles County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the store for a theft that was not in progress. Store management reported that a man had entered the store, selected merchandise, left without paying, placed the items inside a vehicle and then returned to the store with a receipt.

The vehicle was described as a gray Toyota Sequoia with Maryland registration, according to charging documents.

When officers arrived, a store manager described the suspect as a Black man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with gray hair, wearing a black T-shirt and gray pants. The manager also reported that the man had previously stolen merchandise from the store.

Officers searched the area, but the suspect had already left before they arrived.

Court documents state the store manager provided surveillance footage showing the suspect, later identified as Willett, entering the store at about 11:05 a.m. while operating a mobile shopping cart. The footage reportedly showed him selecting multiple packages of meat merchandise and concealing the items inside a bag.

At about 11:16 a.m., Willett was seen passing all points of sale without paying, according to charging documents.

The stolen merchandise was valued at $163.65 and included approximately six T-bone steaks, six sausages and two packs of hot dogs.

A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle traveling on Route 5 and made contact with the occupants. A third occupant matched the suspect description, according to the report.

Before exiting the vehicle, Willett allegedly left behind a glass smoking device commonly used to ingest controlled dangerous substances. Officers reported the device had burn marks and suspected CDS residue inside.

Willett exited the vehicle and walked away from officers, according to court documents. Police later located and apprehended him in the 3600 block of Leonardtown Road in Waldorf and positively identified him using his Maryland identification card.

The glass smoking device was recovered and seized as CDS paraphernalia. The paraphernalia was placed into Charles County Sheriff’s Office property and sent to Maryland State Police for testing.

Court records show Willett was released on a $300 unsecured personal bond on May 20.

A trial/officer scheduling hearing is set for July 7, 2026, in Charles District Court.
