Lexington Park Man Held Without Bond On 19 Charges In Child Sexual Abuse Case

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park man is being held without bond after authorities charged him with 19 counts in a child sexual abuse case, according to court documents.

Helbert Barahona-Gonzalez, 44, of Lexington Park, was charged with three counts of second-degree rape of a child under 14, three counts of incest, three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, one count of sexual abuse of a minor as part of a continuing course of conduct, three counts of third-degree sex offense involving a child under 14, three counts of fourth-degree sex offense involving sexual contact and three counts of sexual abuse of a minor by a household or family member.

The charges stem from an alleged incident reported June 3, 2026, in St. Mary’s County.

Charging documents state a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy was advised of an ongoing investigation involving allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. The report states investigators later made contact with the victim and a witness as part of the investigation.

According to charging documents, investigators also conducted a recorded one-party phone call during the investigation. During that call, the defendant allegedly made statements related to the allegations and asked that charges not be pursued.

The case was reviewed by a judicial officer on June 3, with probable cause found on several charges listed in the court record.

Court records show Barahona-Gonzalez appeared for a bail review on June 4 before Judge Andrea R.S. Watkins. He was ordered held without bond.

The commitment order also lists special conditions requiring Barahona-Gonzalez to stay away from the victim’s home and school and have no contact with the victim, state’s witnesses or co-defendants.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 30 in St. Mary’s County District Court.
