Thomas Edwin Hitt, 92, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at Solomons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Solomons, Maryland.

Born on October 8, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, Thomas was the beloved son of the late Clyde Hitt and Anna Pauline Painter Hitt.

On May 21, 1960, Thomas married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hitt, at Andrews Air Force Base in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage until Patricia’s passing, building a life centered on love, family, and cherished memories.

Thomas dedicated many years of his career to Giant Food Inc. He began as a Produce Manager before becoming the Garden Center Manager, a position he often said was his favorite. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed helping customers and sharing his love of gardening.

A devoted family man, Thomas especially treasured the time he spent with his sons. Friday nights were often spent at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Maryland, where they shared a passion for auto racing. Alongside his sons, Tommy and Rob, Thomas enjoyed both stock car racing and demolition derbies. His love of the sport continued through Rob, who still races in Virginia today.

Thomas was an active member of the Lions Club in Silver Hill, Maryland, where he enjoyed serving his community. In his earlier days, he loved boating and spending time on the water. After boating, he enjoyed camping with his family and friends. During football season, he could always be found cheering on his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. Whether at the racetrack, on the water, or surrounded by family and friends, Thomas embraced life with enthusiasm and a warm smile.

Thomas is survived by his children, Robert Clyde Hitt of Virginia, Thomas William Hitt of Callaway, Maryland, and Kimberly Ann James of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Doris Ruleman of West Virginia; his grandchildren, Amanda (David) Stubaus Robert Hitt, Ashley Hitt, Jason Hitt, Cameron Pfiel and Seth Garrett; his great-grandchildren, Christopher Stubaus, Emalee Stubaus, Kassidy Stubaus, Carson Stubaus, Kaylee Hill and Mason Hill great-grandchildren; and his beloved companion, Alice Johnson.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Hitt; his sister, Audrey Fredrich; his daughter-in-law, Lori Hitt and his grandson Trevor Pfiel.

The family will receive friends on August 4, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a memorial service celebrated by Rev. Joe Orlando at 7:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
