CHAPTICO, Md. — A fire that damaged a home on Manor Road in Chaptico Monday morning was caused by a malfunctioning electrical appliance, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The fire was reported around 9:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, in the 38000 block of Manor Road.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire began on the first floor of the single-family home and was determined to be electrical in nature.
Two occupants were inside the home when the fire started. Investigators said working smoke alarms activated and alerted them, allowing both to escape without injury.
The occupants are being assisted by family members.
The 7th District Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responding department, with approximately 50 firefighters from surrounding departments assisting at the scene.
Crews brought the fire under control in about one hour.
Investigators estimated the fire caused approximately $100,000 in structural damage and another $50,000 in damage to the contents of the home.
The preliminary investigation determined the fire was caused by the malfunction of an electrical appliance.
The fire was initially reported after multiple callers saw flames coming from the residence. Responding crews arrived to find smoke showing from the two-story split-foyer home, with fire involving the first floor and attic.
No injuries were reported.
