Bridgeport, CT – The five game series between ย  ย  the Blue Crabs and the Bridgeport Bluefish concluded Thursday evening, July 2 ย with Southern Maryland winning 7-2.

Bridgeport took the early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Jonathan Galvez RBI groundout. ย 

Southern Maryland put up a three spot in the top of the fifth.ย  Casey Frawley doubled, and that was followed by a Tyler Wagner walk to put two runners on base.ย  Two batters later Anthony Vega tripled to score Frawley, and Wagner to make it 2-1.ย  Renny Osuna then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Vega to make it 3-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, John Alonso doubled to score Wellington Dotel to make a one run game.ย 

The Blue Crabs took a strangle hold of the game late though to pull away for the victory.ย  After scoring a run in the eighth, the Blue Crabs scored three runs in the ninth.ย  With a runners at first and third, Jake Optiz singled to score Vega.ย  Tim Gustafson uncorked a wild pitch to put runners at second and third.ย  Daryle Ward strolled to the plate and singled to score Osuna, and Optiz to bring the score to itโ€™s final of 7-2.

Southern Maryland returns home for a three game set over the Independence Day weekend.ย  The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Friday, July 3 at Regency Furniture Stadium.ย 

All-Star righthander Jake Hale (8-2, 2.49) will start for the Blue Crabs, while righty Josh Geer (3-1, 2.12) will toss for Sugar Land.
